The other members include P. L. Bar nette and R. C. Burnette. CURB REPORTER Chas. J. Lynch received notice from his Elk’s club at Columbia, S. C., the other day that his name was drawn out of the hat for the attendance prize, and as he was not present he didn’t get it. The prize was $11 .... Being chair man of the Polk Civilian Defense Council, Charlie is supposed to go to a state meeting m Kaieign to day. He has had letters or tele grams from Governor Broughton, Ben Douglas and other state offi cials, but it costs about $40 in expenses for one of these meet ings; and the local chairmen don’t get a salary or expense money. .... Stepping Stones to Litera ture was the title of a primary school book of mine about 35 years ago and on the first page was a picture of the small child learning to walk stepping on the stones in the pathway leading from: its home. People living today have seen so many stepping stones in the great progress the world has made within the past 75 years. Matthew Eylar, now a visitor in Tryon, who plans to make this the hall way point each year between his homes in the North and Flori da, was one of the original type writer salesmen.
